Port Washington Play Troupe will bring our community a beloved holiday story reimagined as a classic radio drama with music, Miracle on 34th St – A Radio Play, complete with live Foley effects and songs guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.

 

SYNOPSIS: When Macy’s department store Santa claims he’s the real Kris Kringle, he is challenged by the Supreme Court, and a little girl’s heart makes the difference. ​​

AUDITION INFORMATION

ACTORS: 

Our Live Radio Productions are perfect for the busy  professional actor as well as those new to the stage.  No memorization is neccesary as scripts will be held in hand,  in the style of old-time radio shows.  Casting is based on vocal inflection and ability to portray multiple vocal characterizations.  Port Washington Play Troupe is commited to diverse and inclusive casting.  There will be a light rehearsal schedule.  And no need to prepare anything to audition!  All readings will be from the script.

SINGERS:

Our Live Radio Productions are perfect for busy musicians.  Auditions are by video submission only (no need to come to auditions).  Audition can be an uptempo song from the Amercian Songbook.  The Musical Director/Arranger - David Barnett - will review videos and contact.  Singers will have a very light rehearsal schedule and plug into the production the week before tech/dress.  Singers will be featured  soloists that also will perform tight harmony commercial jingles.

Doris Walker:  Macy’s public relations expert, Smart and Practical

 

Susan Walker:  Her precocious young daughter (seeking a child  aged 8-16)

 

Fred Gailey:  Lawyer, looking for love and a miracle, also plays Alfred:  Kris’ coworker, teenager

 

Male Character Actor:  Shellhammer:  Macy’s PR man, RH Macy: Owner of the department store, Mr. Sawyer:  Stuffy head of the personnel department, Louie:  Works in post office, Charles Halloran: Mafia businessman

 

Male Character ActorDrunken Santa:  Tight as a knot, Gimbel:  Owner of Gimbels- Macy’s hated rival, Thomas Mara:  Prosecuting attorney, Mortimer:  little boy -wants a fire engine, Postman: idea man -dumps letters in courtroom

 

Female Character Actor Mortimer’s Mother:  Thick NY accent. Shopper, Mrs. Mara:  Assistant DA’s wife, Dr. Pierce:  Psychiatrist and friend to Kris, Nurse:  At Bellevue Hospital, Tommy Jr.:  Marra’s son that testifies, Little Girl: wants skates, Libby Collins:  Affected Actress (2 Scenes)

 

William Keeley:  Producer/Spokesman: Lux Radio Theater also plays Judge Henry Harper:  hard as granite

Foley Artist , 2nd Mama:  little girl’s Mom, Miss Pall:  Secretary * this role is cast*

​

Chordettes:  Trio of strong soloists that sing solos and commercial jingles in tight harmony (Macy’s jingle, Gimbels jingle, commercial jingle) Note:  these roles will have less rehearsals – starting in November with the Musical Director.  They will join cast the first week of December
